New Boaters
My wife ,son and I visited the Toronto Boat Show last year with the intention of meeting with a broker we had been in contact with on line. We were looking at a sailboat for the family as well as our grandchildren ( who would be the crew). During our visit we took in a seminar for new boaters on what to look for when purchasing a used boat, which was very informative. We met with the broker who showed us a few boats that we were interested in and made arrangements for a site visit in March when we were on vacation nearby. I had no intention of purchasing a boat without a marine survey, which turned out to be the best move as the boat we were originally interested in, the surveyor said he would not go out in the boat for a sea trial as he was concerned with the bulkhead support and the mast may have come down. He had done a survey 2 years previous on the boat and this defect was not present at the time. We decided to purchase another identical model boat that the broker also had available and have enjoyed sailing on Lake Huron this past summer. This is our first boat we have owned. Can'r wait until January for the show again as there are some additional items we are looking to purchase for the next sailing season. I also rejoined the Canadian Power Squadron after a 30 year absence and my wife became a new member as well.
